ME:
My name is Sarah Shembarger. I have been teaching for 34 years. I have taught soooooo long that I have actually had children of my students! That makes me feel old, but it is also pretty amazing. WHERE I HAVE TAUGHT: I have been teaching at Sylvester for 23 years!! Before that, I taught in the Eau Claire schools for 12 years. In Eau Claire, I taught ART for 2 years, then moved to 4th GRADE and ended in 6th GRADE MATH. I also was the PRINCIPAL for the evening MIGRANT PROGRAM in Eau Claire. Then I moved to Berrien Springs to SYLVESTER ELEMENTARY where I have taught 5th GRADE in room 32 for all of my time here. MY EDUCATION: I grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from ST. JOE HIGH SCHOOL, before attending Lake Michigan College for a year. I moved on to OLIVET COLLEGE for my BACHELOR'S DEGREE. Olivet was such a great place to go to school where I got individualized attention and top professors to teach me. I STUDENT TAUGHT in MARSHALL, MICHIGAN at GORDON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. I received my MASTER'S DEGREE from WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY. MY FAMILY: I am married to MIKE SHEMBARGER, retired Mars Principal and current Trinity Lutheran School Principal. We have three children and seven grandchildren - AND one on the way! Mike's son, Matt (Heather) has KENNEDY LYNN. Mike's son, Scott (Candace) has MADDEX JACE and BLAKELY RYAN and one on the way. My daughter Emily has KAMDYN DOUGLAS-WARREN. Emily is got married to Nick and I inherited THREE more grand-kids...KELSEY, HANNAH and KADEN - 3 of the best kids I know! We built an apartment on to our home a few years ago and my parents lived next door to us for five years. The summer of 2015 my elderly parents passed away - one in May, the other in July - after 68 years of marriage. Life is a little quieter now at our house. Our family is our center and we try to spend as much time with our kids as possible. We summer in Decatur at a fun campground on a lake, swimming and kayaking and cooking out as much as we can and I LOVE to take my boat out on Lake Michigan whenever I can. MY OUTLOOK: I feel so blessed to love my job and teaching doesn't seem like a job. Being with MY KIDS, who make me laugh and keep me on my toes is awesome. |
